Presidential Transport
Air defences, nuclear defences, decoys...the security measures of the President's vehicle knows no boundaries.
President of the United States - a prestigous, coveted, awe-inspiring position. As one of the world’s most powerful nations, the United States essentially decides the fate of the world - to be the leader of this country is an honor.
Unfortunately, criminals view this as a perfect opportunity to try and harm the president, which has been a major issue in the security element of the role. Not only would this create a huge spectacle, but it could also stir fear and unrest in the minds of worldwide citizens. In turn, this could create an opening for someone to become the leader of such a prestigious nation by force, which could drive the world into chaos.
The United States, with a thriving economy and an abundant supply of capital, has spared no expense in protecting it’s president. Today, we’ll be looking at the history of presidential state cars, then focusing on President Trump and Biden’s vehicle - also known as the Beast. Welcome to…Presidential Transport.
THE HISTORY OF PRESIDENTIAL STATE CARS
After the automobile industry exploded with sales, the president’s security force immediately started to develop certain vehicles that would optimise protection of the president. Money was no object. President Roosevelt was the first to order a state car, known as the Lincoln K. Sunshine Special, as shown in the image below:
The vehicle included doors with hidden plated armour, windows that were an inch thick and specially engineered compartments that were designed to fit and hide submachine guns. The car, in an attempt to shield the passengers even further, also consisted of bulletproof tires, a top speed of 100mph (high at the time), a siren for emergencies and a two-way radio.
Presidents Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy all used the same car for their terms as president, making a few minor changes to Roosevelt’s state car, including the addition of a plexiglass roof and expanding the armour plating to fit across the entire vehicle. After Kennedy’s assassination however, the security team upgraded the protectiveness of the car, adding a bulletproof top, stronger titanium armour plating and glass that deflected bullets.
After a few more vehicles, including those of Presidents Reagan and Bush, Barack Obama twisted the meaning of the presidential state vehicle - in addition to a sleek car, Obama also spent a huge $1.1 million on a state bus, dubbed the “Ground Force One.”
The security behind the vehicle was truly incredible - the bus featured multiple safety measures, including:
An emergency supply of the President’s blood, in case there was an acute blood loss incident
Tinted windows for extra privacy
Acutely reinforced glass
Oxygen tanks to protect against chemical/other molecular assaults
Flashing police-style lights on either end of the vehicle
After President Obama’s presidential term ended, Mr. Trump was voted leader of the United States, where he abolished Obama’s quirky bus and focused solely on a car. The car was a modern Cadillac One, known as….the Beast.
THE BEAST
The Beast, as the name suggests, is a high-tech vehicle that is near impossible to penetrate. According to multiple sources, the vehicle is equipped with many gadgets and tools that seem like they’ve slipped into reality from a spy movie - this includes door handles that are designed to electrocute attackers when needed, and a smoke screen to achieve the highest level of privacy.
